THE IKA WORLD CUP ON THE ZHIGULI SEA
A huge water area, convenient infrastructure, high-quality organization, all possible disciplines of winter sailing sport, dozens of professional sportsmen and hundreds of kiters-amateurs – that’s what you can expect from this incredible event!
The competition in Togliatti is a unique combination of professional and amateur races and the legendary Zhiguli Sea Marathon. The Marathon is held according to the petal principle, this allows the sportsmen of any level to try their hand at the fight against the distance, wind and their selves. The distance is 45 km by general course. The most well-known sportsmen from Russia and other countries will compete for the titles of the best kiters in the framework of this World Cup. The masters of skis and snowboard will compete in such disciplines as Course-Race, Freestyle, Marathon and Slalom. There will be a separate division - Tube kite (Standart).
Among registered participants you can find such names as Dmitriy Nikulichev, Nikita Sokolov, Maria Bukreeva, Pavel Kolabin. All of them are stars of the contemporary sailing sport.
Right after the professional races, the amateur races of Zhiguli Sea Marathon will start. Kiters will take part in the races in the ski and snowboard classes as well as in the mass fun-races. At the same time some children races will be held on the specially developed distance. Year after year our children races bring up more and more participants. In 2019 the younger generation will come from such cities as Togliatti, Novosibirsk, Kolomna, Yaroslavl and many other regions of Russia to compete for the high titles. In the nearest future these very children may represent our country at the Olympics, given that starting from 2024 kite surfing is included in the program of Olympic Games!n
The races will finish on 24 February. At this very day, alongside with the races, a huge festival for fans and supporters of our sport will be organized. Dozens of interactive educational and entertainment spots will be working along the embankment for grown-ups and children. Hundreds of prizes and gifts will be raffled from the main stage. According to the organizing committee this family festival will be great addition to the sporting part of the World Cup.
- It isn’t the first year we organize competitions this way: the kiters are competing at the water area, and the fans are entertaining at the festival on the river bank. It is a very popular event among the Togliatti citizens. Up to 5, 000 citizens and hundreds of guests from another cities come to the festival every year. From our point of view this combination is a good tool to stir up the interest to winter sailing sports. – says Eugenia Kotlyarova the head of SNOWKITERUSSIA project and the chairman of the organizing committee.
